BEGINNER LESSONS
WindSense's Windsurfing Basics is designed to have you windsurfing qucikly and safely. The lesson is not a group lesson but is a private, one on one lesson. It consist of sail rigging and proper handling of the gear, uphauling the sail, sailing out and back, and turning (tacking.) The cost is $60 for the 2+ hour class and there is a discount for Monday through Thursday classes. Once you have completed the class, you will be able to rent WindSense’s rental gear and will be given a $5 discount on your first 2 rentals. It is WindSense’s policy NOT to rent gear to individuals who do not know the basic required skills. Lessons and rental gear are available from May through September.
Lessons are normally held at OLD FEDERAL Park. From Atlanta, take 85 North to 985 North to Exit 8, Friendship road. Go LEFT on Friendship road for 2.5 miles, RIGHT on McEver road for about 5 miles to the third light, turn LEFT on Jim Crow Road which becomes Old Federal Road, for about 2.5 miles. Take the second RIGHT after the PopStop store, to the Old Federal BOAT RAMP and BEACH, not Old Federal Camp Ground.
RENTAL GEAR
WindSense’s beginner rental gear consist of:
A Bic Nova 240 D board and 3.7, 4.5, and 5.2 Ezzy sails. This board is an exceptional beginner/teaching board as it is fairly wide, 82cm (stable,) and not too short, 308cm (decent water line.) The volume is 240 liters, which is plenty of float even for the bigger guys. It has a retrackable dagger board and EVA padded deck. Rental includes 2 sails.
An Exocet KONA One and 6.0 sail. This board is more advanced but beginner friendly, with 220 liters, 70cm wide and 350cm long. It also has a retrackable dagger board and EVA padded deck.
The rental price is $35 per day, with a discount available for Monday through Thursday rentals and multiple day rentals.
